چکیده

This work deals with the LQG control problem of a flexible beam clamped at one end and with a point mass at the free end, where a boundary control force can be applied. A class of finite-dimensional control laws is proposed here, derived on the basis of the EulerBernoulli infinite-dimensional beam model. By means of this approach it is possible to take into account also the higher order modes that are indeed neglected in the more usual methods based on a finite-dimensional model of the beam. The main motivation for the approach followed here is that it naturally allows to overcome the phenomenon of spillover, occurring when unmodeled modes are excited by the control law itself. The finite-dimensional control law here proposed is derived by a Galerkin approximation of the solution of the LQG control problem, in a proper Hilbert space setting. In particular, the novelty of the approach is the definition of an implementable Galerkin approximation scheme based on generalized eigenfunctions of the Euler-Bernoulli model instead of the usual splines. It is here proved that, for any given finite time horizon, the evolution of the system state driven by the proposed control input converges, in L2 norm, to the optimal LQG evolution, as the order of the approximation scheme increases. The strong stability of the closed loop system is guaranteed for any order of the approximation scheme. Moreover, it is proved that the proposed compensator guarantees modal stability of the closed loop system also in the presence of stiffness/ inertia parameters uncertainties.

The purpose of this paper is control of simply supported flexible core sandwich beam's linear vibration equipped with piezoelectric patches under different loads. The effects of external forces imposed on sandwich beam can be reached to a minimum value by designing an appropriate controller and control the beam's vibration. Three-layer sandwich beam theory is used for analytical modeling of san...

Function Approximation Approach for Robust Adaptive Control of Flexible joint Robots

This paper is concerned with the problem of designing a robust adaptive controller for flexible joint robots (FJR). Under the assumption of weak joint elasticity, FJR is firstly modeled and converted into singular perturbation form. The control law consists of a FAT-based adaptive control strategy and a simple correction term. The first term of the controller is used to stability of the slow dy...

A Nonlocal First Order Shear Deformation Theory for Vibration Analysis of Size Dependent Functionally Graded Nano beam with Attached Tip Mass: an Exact Solution

In this article, transverse vibration of a cantilever nano- beam with functionally graded materials and carrying a concentrated mass at the free end is studied. Material properties of FG beam are supposed to vary through thickness direction of the constituents according to power-law distribution (P-FGM). The small scale effect is taken into consideration based on nonlocal elasticity theory of E...

A comparative study between MP and DLQ control strategies for a flexible link

In this paper we developed a control scheme for a Quanser Flexible Link experiment. The purpose of the paper is to design a controller which reduces (eliminates) the undamped oscillations of the tip of the beam while commanding the tip to a desired position. First, we design a control scheme with a model predictive controller. Model predictive control (MPC) is a well-known technique used to (su...
